The more content on the web the happier Google gets. Google offers free storage space for any one to upload files. The service is started on the 15th of november 2005 and is called Google Base. And you don't need to set up a website, just upload files, documents etc. and tag them. All this stuff needs to indexed and will eventually be searched.

Ars Technica speculates about a new Google service based on the fresh Google Print Library initiative. Supposedly Google approached a publisher to discuss one week online rentel of a book with no possibility of downloading and or printing. Proposed fee of 10% of the book price was declined by the publisher as too low. This move by Google seems to be a respons on the Amazon Pages announcement. As you may recall, Amazon began offering the ability to search within popular books two years ago, although to date the entire catalog has not been scanned. Amazon currently claims that one half of all books they sell are indexed, however.
Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) announced on the 3rd of november two innovative programs to benefit readers, authors and publishers. Building on its successful Search Inside the Book technology, which allows customers to search the complete interior text of hundreds of thousands of books, the company is currently developing two new programs that will enable customers to purchase online access to any page, section, or chapter of a book, as well as the book in its entirety.

There's a catch, you can only use it for non-commercial purposes for free. No news on a paid-for service yet.
